ORLANDO, FL (September 12, 2024) – Dorea Mays, director of Human Resources at Rosen Hotels & Resorts, has been honored with the HR Professional of the Year award recognized by the HR Florida State Council. This prestigious award acknowledges outstanding individuals who have significantly advanced the human resources profession and serve as exemplary role models for their peers.

With over 30 years of experience, Dorea has dedicated her career to the human resources field, 23 years of which have been at Rosen Hotels & Resorts. Her impactful initiatives have been instrumental in fostering a fair and supportive work environment for associates across the diverse subsidiaries under the Rosen brand.

Some of the programs she has implemented include the Rosen READY program, designed to provide comprehensive onboarding and development for all associates, as well as leadership and development training courses. Dorea has also played a key role in enhancing benefits such as tuition reimbursement and eligibility while expanding the HR department’s Family Outreach Center to offer support for childcare, education and emergency situations.

Beyond her professional accomplishments, Dorea has served as a board member of various associations, including the Rosen College of Hospitality Management Advisory Board, the Florida Youth Foundation, the Hospitality Human Resources Association and the OCPS Compact Program.

In addition to her master’s degree in human resources and various HR certifications, Dorea holds a certification as a Leadership Performance Coach. Leveraging these skills, she consistently mentors managers, empowering them to become confident and effective leaders.

Dorea Mays was presented with the award at the annual HR Florida State Council conference, which took place at Rosen Shingle Creek. The HR Florida State Council is the state affiliate for the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM).
